Message from the Principal
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Summers County High School. My name is Kari Vicars, and I have the privilege of being the principal at SCHS. I am starting my 12th year in education, and my 5th year as principal.
I am married to Chris Vicars, Assistant Principal of Summers Middle School and also the Head Coach of the Summers County Bobcats. I have three children, Laci, Will, & Sam.
I am a life-long resident of Summers County. I graduated from Summers County High School in 1999. I got my Bachelor's Degrees in Education and History at Concord University in 2005. I received a Master's Degree in Teaching from Marshall University in 2012, and a certification in Educational Leadership from Concord University in 2013.
I want you to know that I take great pride in being the principal of Summers County High School, and my main goal is to see my students happy and successful. I believe that we have a school full of future doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, welders, carpenters, police officers, and other professions that are going to make a huge difference in this world. It is my honor to lead some of the best and brightest minds in the State of WV.
Our overall goal at SCHS is to provide students with an education that will equip them to be productive citizens and leaders in our communities. We want NO EMPTY SEATS at graduation! Please let me know if I can do anything to help you along the way. I am looking forward to a great year, and as always, it’s a great time to be a Bobcat!
Message from the Assistant Principal
Daniel "Al" Hudgins
I want to take a moment to share with you that I am extremely proud to be the Assistant Principal at Summers County High School. The faculty, staff, leadership, and community has welcomed me with open arms and are very supportive.
My name is Daniel “Alan” Hudgins, Jr. The 2017-2018 school year will be my 12th year in education and my 2ndyear as an Administrator. I taught Social Studies for 10 years. I have coached football and baseball.
I have been married for almost 14 years to my wife, Lindsay. She has been a teacher for 12 years, and currently teaches Kindergarten. We have three children; Alexander, Alivianna, and Zane.
I am honored to be from southern West Virginia and the coal mining heritage of my grandfathers and my dad. I graduated from Wyoming East High School in 1999. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and History in 2004 and a Bachelor of Science in Education in 2005 at Concord University. I am a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon international fraternity. In 2015, I earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Concord University. I have lived or worked in Mercer, Raleigh, Wyoming, McDowell, and Summers County.
Summers County High School is classified as an “A” school. I envision SCHS as a “AAAA” school because of the focus on Academics, Arts, Athletics, and Attitudes. Our staff encourage students to achieve success in “Academic” programs. We Promote the “Arts” for students to be creative in our CTE and fine arts programs. In “Athletics” we recognize the values and sportsmanship learned through a strong sports tradition. Lastly, we recognize the need for proper “Attitude”. The faculty and staff at SCHS set high behavioral expectations for all our young men and women. Ultimately, we are preparing our students with the tools needed to become successful citizens.
